CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)— One person is in critical condition after a Sunday-morning confrontation on the West Side turned into gunfire.

Chicago police said a 23-year-old man was walking in the 3100 block of West Cermak Road in North Lawndale at about 10:25 a.m. Sunday when two people approached him. A fight followed, police said, and the man — who police said holds a valid concealed-carry license and Firearm Owner’s Identification card — pulled out a gun and fired, striking one of the people.
The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition. Police said they were speaking with a person of interest, and Area Four detectives are investigating.
Authorities have not publicly described what led to the confrontation, and no charges had been announced as of Sunday. The identities of those involved were not released.
It is the second weekend in a row that a Chicago sidewalk argument has ended with a hospital trip — and another reminder of how fast a confrontation can turn deadly in this city, even in broad daylight on a Sunday morning.
