CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)ā Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and Chicago is stretching the celebration across the whole week. Here’s where the city is headed, starting tonight.
It starts on Southport tonight: Trick or Treat on Southport runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with local businesses handing out candy alongside arts and crafts, games, a live DJ, inflatables and a pumpkin patch.
Midweek keeps the spirit going. The Ravenswood Costume Crawl runs Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and that same night the Old Town School of Folk Music hosts a DĆa de los Muertos concert at 7:30 p.m. ā free, with a $10 suggested donation ā an evening of music, culture and community honoring the Day of the Dead.
Then comes Saturday, the main event. Washington Park hosts the free Upside Down Halloween Parade from noon to 2 p.m., where families don’t just watch ā they join the procession, in costume, alongside performers, musicians and acrobats. On the North Side, Haunted Halsted takes over Lakeview with a festival from noon and a parade at 7 p.m., free for spectators. And for the grown-ups, the Shedd Aquarium throws its Haunted House Party from 7 to 11 p.m., while the Chicago Theatre screens “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 7:30 p.m.
The week closes Sunday at Navy Pier, where De Los Muertos runs from 1 to 5 p.m., free, with art and cultural activities for the whole family.
Costumes encouraged all week. Chicago does Halloween like nobody else ā get out and enjoy it.
