NEWS FLASH

CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)— One person was shot Monday evening in Pilsen during an incident involving federal agents, and now the FBI is reviewing what happened.

Chicago police said officers responded to the 1700 block of South Union Avenue, where the department’s Investigative Response Team went to document the scene. Chicago fire officials confirmed one person had been shot. The person’s condition was not immediately released, and officials have not said what led to the shooting.

The FBI’s Chicago Field Office confirmed the shooting happened near West 18th Street and South Union Avenue, and said its Inspection Division is reviewing the incident in accordance with agency policy.

“The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously,” the agency said in a statement. Federal officials declined to provide additional information.

The incident shut down nearby streets, including the southbound 18th Street exit, backing up traffic on the Kennedy Expressway Monday evening.

What exactly unfolded on South Union — and who was involved — remains unanswered this morning. The investigation is ongoing.
