CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)— The City of Harvey has formally entered the federal lawsuit against it — and its first move is to ask the court for more time.
Attorney Thomas G. DiCianni appeared Tuesday, November 3, for the City of Harvey and seven co-defendants in the case of Shakur et al v. City of Harvey et al, case number 1:26-cv-05544 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Minutes later, the defendants filed a motion for an extension of time.
The defendants named in the filings are the City of Harvey, Sheila Ashley, Cameron Biddings, Jedidiah Brown, Derrick Charles, Stephen Manning, Jeffrey Tibbs, and Robert Wright.
Why the case was filed, briefly: Shakur alleges civil rights violations in Harvey — a coordinated pattern of mob-style violence against critics, aided or ignored by local police — and the suit seeks to hold city leadership accountable in federal court.
What that means, plainly: no answer to the lawsuit has been filed yet. The defense has shown up and asked for more time to respond, and no ruling on that request appears in the court notices so far.
For Influencer Amir A.H. Shakur, the message is simple: the case moves forward. The filing does not end anything — it starts the fight in federal court, and he intends to continue pressing it.
