CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)— November is here, and Chicago is not slowing down. From comedy to jazz to the first lights of the holiday season, this week has something for every corner of the city.
The laughs start Thursday. The 312 Comedy Festival runs November 5–15, bringing stand-up across the city. On the music side, the Chicago Asian American Jazz Festival takes the stage November 6–7, and Candlelight Concerts light up venues all week with tributes to Adele, Drake, 90s hip-hop on strings, and Juan Gabriel.
Film lovers get two festivals at once. The Black Harvest Film Festival runs November 6–15 at the Gene Siskel Film Center, and the First Nations Film and Video Festival runs November 3–10.
Friday brings the big retail moment: Levi’s opens its new Michigan Avenue flagship on November 6, with artist-led customization sessions and Hebru Brantley’s FlyBoy artwork in denim above the storefront through December 31. The opening follows a citywide portrait campaign featuring six Chicago residents that began October 26.
Families have plenty too. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey bring The Greatest Show on Earth to Rosemont November 6–8, and the Chicago Toy & Game Fair lands in Rosemont November 7–8.
And the holidays start sparkling Saturday, November 7: the Museum of Science and Industry hosts its Tree Lighting & Cultural Festival, with the countdown to the Grand Tree lighting, Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Lights, performances from local cultural organizations, and seasonal samplings from Stan’s Donuts. That same day, Diwali lights up Chicago Women’s Park and Gardens from 4 to 6 p.m.
Andersonville’s Autumn Restaurant Week runs through November 15, and Illinois residents get free admission at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum November 2–4.
Get out and enjoy your city — Chicago does November right.
