Caleb Is Back: Williams’ Perfect Return Lifts Bears Past Falcons 31-23 in Atlanta

CHICAGO URBAN DAILY

CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)— Caleb Williams didn’t just come back. He came back perfect.

The Bears’ franchise quarterback returned Sunday in Atlanta after missing three games with a hamstring injury, and he reminded everyone what this offense is supposed to look like: 30-of-36 for 305 yards, a touchdown, no interceptions, and a 111.2 passer rating as Chicago beat the Falcons 31-23 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Williams engineered touchdown drives on the Bears’ first two possessions — 10-of-10 for 122 yards and a score — staking Chicago to a 14-0 lead it never gave up. “Colston and I locked eyes and I just gave my guy a shot,” Williams said of the 14-yard touchdown to tight end Colston Loveland that opened the scoring. D’Andre Swift ran in two scores, and the Bears led 31-7 early in the fourth.

Then it got interesting. Atlanta’s Michael Penix Jr. threw two touchdowns to tight end Kyle Pitts inside a four-minute span, both followed by two-point conversions, and suddenly it was 31-23 with 5:41 to play.

Enter Kyler Gordon. The cornerback — making his season debut — recorded his third sack of the day and his second strip-sack, and Devin Bush recovered the fumble at the Atlanta 28 with 2:54 left. Game over.

The Bears are 4-2 and sitting second in the NFC North. One week after the Green Bay embarrassment, that’s the response.
