CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)— Another violent night in Chicago — a woman dead, and four more people hurt before sunrise.
The overnight violence stretched from Thursday evening into Friday morning, hitting three different neighborhoods. A 48-year-old woman was killed in Chicago Lawn after what police describe as an argument turned deadly. It happened around 10:10 p.m. Thursday inside a home in the 3400 block of West 59th Place. Police say the woman argued with a man she knew, and he stabbed her in the chest with a sharp object before fleeing. She was taken to Christ Hospital, where she died. Police recovered a weapon at the scene and say the stabbing appears to be domestic-related.
In Roseland, a 26-year-old man was stabbed around 8:45 p.m. Thursday during a fight with two men he knew inside a residence in the 200 block of East 108th Street. He was cut on the abdomen and taken to Roseland Hospital in fair condition.
In Englewood, a 25-year-old man was shot around 11:23 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Lafayette Avenue after an argument in traffic with someone in a gray SUV. The shooter fired on him, hitting him in the chest and left leg. He lost control of his car and crashed into a pole. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. The shooter fled.
One more man was shot in the leg in a separate incident. Area One and Area Two detectives are investigating.
Five lives changed in a single night. And the city keeps asking the same question: when does it stop?
