White Sox One Win From the ALCS: South Side Takes 2-0 ALDS Lead Over Guardians

CHICAGO URBAN DAILYCHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)— October baseball is alive and loud on the South Side. The Chicago White Sox are one win away from the American League Championship Series.

The Sox rallied past the Cleveland Guardians 4-3 on Monday night in Game 2 of the AL Division Series, taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five set. Down 2-0 early after a first-inning fielding error, Chicago chipped away — Munetaka Murakami knocked in a run in the fourth, and rookie Braden Montgomery ripped a two-run double down the right-field line in the sixth to put the Sox ahead for good. Sean Burke dealt 5 1/3 innings of one-hit relief, and Grant Taylor slammed the door in the ninth for his second straight save.

The series now shifts to Chicago for Game 3 on Wednesday afternoon at Rate Field, with first pitch at 4 p.m. ET on TBS. One win there, and the White Sox are headed to the ALCS for the first time since their 2005 championship run — after becoming the first team ever to reach the postseason following three straight 100-loss seasons, including a record 121 defeats in 2024.

From 121 losses to one win from the ALCS. Nobody in baseball saw this coming — and that’s exactly why this city is believing again.
