CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)—October is here, and Chicago is showing out. From free neighborhood fests to comedy, horror films, and spooky-season favorites, the first weekend of fall is stacked with things to do across the city.
Free festivals, all weekend. The World Music Festival Chicago wraps up its citywide run (September 25–October 4) with free shows. Lincoln Square’s Ravenswood Apple Fest (October 2–4) brings food, music, and fall flavor with a $5 suggested donation. The West Town Art Walk (October 2–4) is free, and Edison Park Oktoberfest runs October 2–3.
Laughs and scares. The Latina Comedy Festival runs October 1–3, while the Chicago Horror Film Festival takes over October 2–4 for the spooky crowd. Comedian Bill Burr brings a multi-night stand-up run to The Chicago Theatre downtown, October 2–4.
Saturday standouts. Celebrate independent neighborhood journalism at the Block Club Chicago Block Party — free general admission with local makers, live music, and food trucks at Half Acre Beer Co. in Bowmanville. Pilsen hosts its Malört Fest Saturday evening, and the Sauced Night Market serves up 50 local vendors, bites, drinks, and music Friday and Saturday nights.
