CHICAGO (CHICAGO URBAN DAILY)—Chicago is doing what Chicago does best this week — throwing the whole world a party, and it’s free.
The 26th annual World Music Festival Chicago is in its final stretch, bringing 10 days of free global music to venues across the city through Sunday, October 4. Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) rolled out this year’s lineup featuring more than 30 artists from 22 countries.
From the Chicago Cultural Center to Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and neighborhood stages, the festival has been serving up everything from Indian classical music to Bulgarian bagpipes and Congolese funk. It opened September 25 with Ragamala, the all-night Indian classical program, and wraps Sunday with the Global Peace Party at Humboldt Park Fieldhouse — free, all ages, noon to 5 p.m.

With traditions from Puerto Rico, Japan, Brazil, Pakistan, Morocco, Mali, Colombia and beyond, the closing weekend is a reminder of what makes this city sing. Shows are first-come, first-served — arrive early.
